A New ASE Guidelines

A New ASE Guidelines

21 January 2023

ISE proudly announced that the latest guideline of ASE : “Recommendations for the Use of Echocardiography in the Evaluation of Rheumatic Heart Disease” has just launched at the end of 2022.
This important work in which our distinguished ISE member, DR. dr. Amiliana M Soesanto, SP.JP(K) FIHA took part of, is hoped to be the benchmark of the early detection and evaluation of RHD, particularly in Indonesia.

Rheumatic heart disease (RHD), pose major health problems globally, commonly in children and young people worldwide. In Indonesia, screening of RHD at early age remains a huge challenge.

Echocardiography is the most important diagnostic tool in recognizing structural and hemodynamic changes in this disease. It plays an invaluable role in detecting the presence of subclinical phase of the disease needing prompt therapy or follow-up assessment.

Intraprocedural echocardiographic guidance is critical during catheter-based (i.e BMV) or surgical treatment of RHD, as an echocardiographic surveillance for post-intervention complications or disease progression.

The role of echocardiography is indispensable in the entire spectrum of RHD management. (J Am Soc Echocardiogr 2023;36:3-28.)
